May 13, 2020 – New York, NY – Texas Education Agency has partnered with Newsela, an instructional content platform that provides accessible, equitable, standards-aligned content designed to keep learning going, even during disruption. Newsela content is included as part of the newly launched Texas Home Learning website, which provides resources to administrators, teachers, students, and parents to facilitate distance learning. TEA-selected content includes differentiated Newsela articles aligned to science, social studies and ELAR learning pathways and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. Each Newsela article is offered at five reading levels with built-in instructional support to promote reading comprehension, critical thinking, and learning.

TEA has implemented the Texas Home Learning online instruction resource to help educators and caregivers with daily and weekly learning plans covering all grades that can be started immediately in a student’s home environment. This partnership ensures that every learner has access to both digital and printed content for every subject to maintain instructional continuity.

This partnership helps teachers and caregivers meet the challenges of distance learning and remote teaching, while meeting the needs of English language learners, special education students, and emergent readers.

Texas students can explore articles by theme, topic, or genre to find the right article based on their interests or the requirements of their lesson. Newsela’s content ensures an educator’s curriculum is timely and responsive by offering dynamic content that is updated daily and supercharges student engagement and learning in every subject today and into the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
